Lynn C. Thompson has developed quite a fascination for the simple functionality that drop forged (drop forged) knives display. Their one-piece construction from a solid piece of steel sets new standards for stability and durability, and as an avid prepper/survivalist, hunter and outdoorsman, Lynn can't deny that the ruggedness of these rough, stripped-down knives has a special appeal to him. With no leather or wood handle to crack, rot or break, and no loose individual parts to break off, get damaged or lost in the field, these impossibly tough, durable blades are effortless to maintain and clean. Cold Steels® monolithic (= existing in one piece) knives in the Monolithic Axe and Tool® series are not cheap castings, but drop-forged from 52100 carbon steel. Each model in the series has its solid steel body expertly heat treated from the tip of the sharp blade to the end of the strong handle. For a comfortable and secure grip, each knife is ergonomically designed with a deep hollow in the handle area. Because these knives can be easily modified or personalized, they are also perfect as 'project knives'. At will, the handles can be upgraded, filing and engraving can be done, or other cool changes can be made to customize.

Drop Forged Bowie
This addition to Cold Steels® Drop Forged knife series has an overall length of 35.8 cm and features a 24.1 cm blade. The knife shares many features with the other models in the series, including the rugged, one-piece construction made from a single piece of steel that provides amazing stability. However, unlike the other Drop Forged knives, it features distinctive faux deer horn handle inlays.

The flat-ground blade has a moderately thin edge that has been honed to razor sharpness. The tip of the blade is pointed enough to allow deep penetration, and the center of gravity is directly in front of the hand guard, making the knife nimble and only slightly blade-heavy.

Like the other knives in the Drop Forged series, it comes with a Secure-Ex™ sheath that meets U.S. military quality standards and features a removable Cordura belt loop.

52100 Carbon Steel
The 52100 carbon steel is a durable steel which is great for fixed hunting knives and other fixed outdoor blades. It is often chosen by knifemakers for forging tough, low-wear blades that must withstand unforgiving conditions.
