Pirate Coat Edward, Justaucorps
Our pirate coat is made of sturdy cotton fabric (canvas) and is completely lined on the inside. The applied ribbons, high quality ball buttons, wide cuffs and hand pockets with large flap give this an authentic look. Combine the coat with simple cotton trousers, a medieval shirt and a wide leather belt and you have a coherent costume for a pirate.
The justaucorps appeared in the 17th century as a uniform of the military and was later worn by civilians as well. Typical of a Justaucorps is the body-hugging fit in the front, the flared skirt in the back and the dividing seam along the waist. It can be assumed that the pirates captured the justaucorps from the fine merchants and that's how they got their clothes.
