Viking tents have many advantages over other medieval tents: They are sturdy, have a stable construction, which also guarantees storage on solid ground, since pegs are not absolutely necessary, and you can give free rein to your creativity in the design of your frame.

The known models are based on the finds in Oseberg and Gokstad, which, however, were not completely preserved and are thus partially reconstructed on conjecture. About the actual use of these tents also nothing can be said exactly. Whether they were really used outdoors or only erected for the Althing is not entirely clear. Another theory suggests that they were market tents. From cram from the Old High German, which means as much as tent, the word Krämer was formed. According to this, they were used at markets at natural harbors.

Since the size of the original finds would become a logistical challenge for most of us, we have made them somewhat smaller and thus more manageable.
The Viking tent, measuring 3.0 x 2.7 x 2 m, can fit up to three people with luggage, while the smaller 2.0 x 2.3 x 1.8 m version can accommodate two people.

Please note that the A tent is supplied without frame!

Our tents and camp tarps are pre-impregnated and thus water-repellent. For the care and renewal of the impregnation, we recommend regular treatment with impregnation spray, eg PLUVONIN. So you will have long pleasure in your tent.

Dimensions are all approximate and may vary from the delivered product. The tents are handmade, which makes them appear as authentic as possible, but also brings one or two small errors. Cotton is a natural material that behaves differently in different external conditions, i.e. it can contract or stretch a lot. Please do not try to stretch the tent skin with great force. This increases the risk of it tearing or seams opening.

Important tips on erection, handling and care of our historical tents

To ensure that you have long enjoyment of your Viking tent, Roman tent, Saxon tent, knight tent, medieval tent, trader tent or medieval market stall, the following tips are helpful:

Don't stretch the ropes too tightly, because natural materials like wood and cotton change with humidity and need room to expand and contract, respectively. Contraction. Thus you prevent that, for example, the openings for the rods in the roof widen and later water has the opportunity to penetrate. At night we recommend to loosen the ropes a little bit, because the humidity rises strongly and there is a possibility that too much pressure is put on your tent. In case of rain or high humidity, please also loosen the ropes a little. After use, be sure to dry your tent if it has become damp, otherwise there is a risk of mold. Do not use chemical or other cleaning agents to clean your tent. It is best to remove dried dirt with a brush. For storage over a longer period of time, please separate all items (pegs, ropes, etc.) from the tent canvas and pack everything separately. Make sure that all parts are dry and also stored dry.
