English helmet closed, 1.6 mm (0.063 in) steel

This helmet is a reproduction of a typical tournament helmet from the early 16th century. It was developed at the end of the 15th century and was mainly worn by knights and men-at-arms in the late Middle Ages and into the Renaissance. It was a helmet that was completely enclosed and protected both the head and neck. While it served its original purpose on the battlefield, its appeal found great popularity in jousting tournaments.

Different from the Schaller is the completely different opening & closing mechanism. Here, the integral pivoting beard (or chin reef) opens vertically instead of laterally and is mounted on the same pivot pins as the two-piece sight.

The reconstruction offered here is made of 1.6mm (0.063 in) thick steel and therefore only conditionally suitable for show combat. As with the well-preserved originals, the flip-up sight is a split design. This means that the flap consists of 2 independent parts. So it is possible to push up only the upper part or to flip up the whole face area. The entire front half of the helmet is attached to the same pivot points as the two-piece visor - so you can flip it up when you put the helmet on.

The helmet bell features a generous crest and the vision slits are each about 6cm (2.36 in) long and about 0.8cm (0.31 in) wide. Numerous round cutouts in the area of the nose and mouth provide the necessary air circulation.

The inside of the helmet is equipped with a leather inlay, which can be adjusted in size. In addition, the helmet has a 3mm (0.12 in) thick leather chin strap.
