Champagne saber in wooden box (Briquet saber)
In the late 18th century, the briquet - a saber of French origin with a short blade - came on the market and quickly became one of the most popular infantry swords of the Napoleonic period.
The term briquet (French for flint, fire steel, or lighter) comes from its small size and its resemblance to the fire starters used by soldiers at the time. What was originally a derisive neologism eventually evolved into the official name for this type of saber. In the Napoleonic Wars at the beginning of the 19th century, the briquet then served not only as an effective close combat weapon, but also proved to be a practical tool for clearing brush, among other things.

The tradition of sabering is said to have been introduced by the famous French general and emperor (or much more by his officers) to celebrate their successes or to soothe their grief after defeat. This effective technique involves using the blunt back of a saber to decapitate a champagne bottle - a sight that still captivates spectators at ceremonial and joyous occasions.
Our offered champagne saber is significantly shorter than the classic infantry saber it was modeled after and resembles more a large knife. Nevertheless, the design and features of the French briquet have been recreated as faithfully as possible. The blunt blade is made of easy-care stainless steel and is slightly curved, with a strong spine and a pointed point. The handle is made of aluminum and has a typical stirrup hand guard that ends in a downward curved parry element.
The accompanying wooden box is lined with dark blue velvet to keep the saber safe and sound during storage or travel. But the wooden box is also well suited for display purposes.
It is important to remember that this champagne saber should not be used for show fighting. It serves its purpose for opening champagne bottles and as a collectible, decorative object or gift.
