Russian Schaschka, cossacks saber with Bajonett, artificially aged, overall length 93,5 cm
This saber, called a shashka (Circassian = long knife), has its origins in the 19th century. At that time, the saber was adopted by the Russian military to become the legendary weapon of the famous Cossacks.
The most distinctive feature of this saber was its handle, which had no hand guard. The hilt was unmistakably equipped with a downward curved pommel. This weapon was used mainly by the horse cavalry and could be used very effectively.
This beautiful specimen is a replica of an original Soviet Cossack saber, model 1927 made around 1934 in the weapons factory of Slatoust, USSR. During the Second World War, this type NKVD - Shashka continued to be used in the ranks of the Red Army.
