End clasp for Roman belt, Tekija

This beautiful end clasp for Roman belt was made after a find from the Flavian period, 1st century AD. The original piece comes from Tekija/Tekije in Serbia and belonged to the cingulum or balteus of a Roman legionary.

The end clamps were attached to so-called pteryges - 4 to 5 leather strips hanging down, which were slid onto a belt rhyme. Metal tags were attached to each end to ensure that the strip did not roll upwards and had an ornamental effect.

This replica is made of 2mm thick brass and then, for a silver look, tinned. To easily attach the end clip to the strap, 2 plates have been added to pinch the leather piece together. Rivets can then be used to attach the end clamp.

Well suited for making your own antique belt of a legionnaire. The fastening material must be purchased separately, as it is not included.
