Lunula moon amulet bronze, large
Â
Slavic lunula amulets in the shape of crescent moons are symbols of feminine powers and reflect the power of the moon. Wearing a lunula pendant is believed to protect the unborn life and protect the mother from possible dangers. Throughout history, people have been enchanted by the mystique of the moon. Thus, moon pendants probably became the symbol of the Roman moon goddess Luna as early as the 2nd century AD. These amulets were popular not only with the Romans, but also with Germanic and Slavic tribes and spread throughout the Baltic region during the 10th century.
Also in the Viking Age, amulets in the shape of a moon were common jewelry among Slavs, Rus and East Vikings. This amulet was not only stylish, but also served as magical protection for girls and women.
The Lunula moon amulet bronze is a slightly scaled-down replica of the original, which was made after a find from Kievan Rus.
