Viking amulet bronze, Thorshammer Mjölnir

Thor's hammer was the magical weapon that Thor used in battle against his enemies. Also known as Mjölnir to the Vikings, Thor's hammer was widely used as a necklace in the 9th and 10th centuries.

The famous Thor's hammer, which comes from the Swedish village of Ödeshög in the province of Östergötland, is a special find from the Viking Age. The Mjölnir from Ödeshög stands in contrast to the many simply designed Thor's hammers of the Vikings. Its rich decoration with filigree granulations makes it stand out among its peers. The Mjölnir features many details, but a striking one is its ornate top end, which mimics the shape of an owl with large eyes and a beak.

Our Viking amulet bronze of the Thor's hammer Mjölnir is modeled after the original, although it is cast solid and does not contain granules. Nevertheless, much attention was paid to the filigree design.
