Sword of the U.S. Heavy Cavalry with steel scabbard, unsharpened

These swords are from the American Civil War, from the years 1861-1865. These were not produced exclusively on American territory. Masses of swords and sabers were imported from Europe at that time, both by the Union and the Confederate States.

This sword is not an original replica of a historical sword. Rather, this sword is based on a French design that enjoyed great popularity among officers and common soldiers on both sides of the conflict in the 19th century.

The straight blade was made of spring steel EN 45, fluted on both sides. The four-strut basket and the handle cap are made of brass and have a beautiful patina. The handle piece has a wooden core and was wrapped with black leather as well as twisted brass wire.
