Greek sword from Alfedena, with bone handle, total length 83 cm

This sword, is a replica of a sword that Italian soldiers carried around the 6th and 5th century BC. This type of sword was depicted on numerous Greek pottery findings.
Model for this replica represented a beautiful artifact recovered in Alfenda, in the Italian Abruzzo. The city of Alfedena, was a strategically important site of the Carecini tribe and was later conquered by the Romans around 298 BC.

It has an elegant, very tapered blade, which is made of carbon steel. The handle is made of bone and is reinforced with additional steel plates.
Visually very appealing is the Ajour pattern of the mouth plate (openwork metal). This sword is among others on the tomb statue of the warrior of Capestrano in Italy.
