Italian rapier, 16th century

This very nice replica of an Italian rapier with curved hilt dates back to the 16th century. In the Renaissance, wearing a rapier was considered a status symbol of free gentlemen. High nobles for example counts and barons wore these long blades. Lower-ranking noblemen had to resort to shorter weapons.

The blade is made of Carbon steel. The guard is also made of Carbon steel in filigree work. The handle is made of real bone.
