General description of the online shop

At Vehi Mercatus you can browse and buy medieval garb, shoes, accessories, camp equipment, jewellery, armour and supplies for reenactment, medieval markets and LARP. You can search for items, filter by features such as era, size or colour, add items to your wish list, put them in the basket, order and pay. With a customer account you can see your orders and addresses. You will also find our magazine, a market calendar and a newsletter.

How the shop is organised

At the top of every page you will find the search field, access to your customer account, your wish list and the basket. Below that is the main menu with the main categories such as clothing, shoes, accessories or camp equipment. Each main category leads to subcategories. In the product lists you can filter and sort the items. At the bottom of every page you will find information about our company, shipping and payment, and the legal information.

How an order works

Look for an item using the search field or the categories. The product page shows pictures, price, delivery time and the description. If necessary, choose a size or colour and put the item in the basket. In the basket you can change the quantity or remove items. At checkout you enter your address, choose the shipping and payment method and check all details on a summary page before you place your binding order.

How to send items back to us is explained on the “Returns” page and in the cancellation policy. If you need help, we are happy to assist you by phone or e-mail.

Accessibility requirements

The requirements result from the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, BFSG), in particular section 14 BFSG, and the corresponding ordinance (BFSGV), which implement the European Accessibility Act. An online shop should be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust. The benchmark is the European standard EN 301 549 in conjunction with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, conformance levels A and AA.

Current status

Our online shop is partially accessible. We check it with automated testing tools and by manual spot checks, for example keyboard operation, contrast and zooming. We have implemented the following:

• The pages adapt to screen size and zoom and can be used on smartphones, tablets and computers.
• Pages have meaningful titles and a clear structure with headings.
• Product images have an alternative text with the item name.
• Form fields in the basket, at checkout, in the customer account and in the contact form are labelled.
• Prices, delivery times and mandatory information are shown as text on the page, not only in images.
• You can choose search suggestions with the arrow keys. Screen readers announce the selected suggestion and the number of suggestions.

These areas are not yet fully accessible:

• Some controls, for example drop-down menus and image galleries, cannot yet be fully operated with the keyboard or a screen reader everywhere.
• Older product descriptions and magazine articles partly contain images without descriptive alternative text or tables without table headers, for example size charts.
• We embed content and functions from other providers but can only adapt them to a limited extent. These include the cookie settings, payment services such as PayPal, the Trusted Shops reviews and our chat assistant.

We are working on a redesigned shop that will gradually improve these points. If you encounter a barrier, we will be happy to help you personally, for example with questions about an item or your order.
