Description

Shield boss (umbo), hexagonal

Hand-forged from 16-gauge structural steel, for reinforcing round and dragon-shaped shields. Suitable for re-enactment, LARP and hobbyists.

Historically, the shield boss served as the central protective dome of the wooden shield, deflecting blows and protecting the hand. The design is based on shields from the Viking Age and the Middle Ages. The structural steel offers strength and impact resistance whilst being comparatively lightweight. Each piece is forged individually, giving it a hammered surface texture.

Assembly: pre-drilled mounting holes; washers and rivets are included. Align the bracket above the grip area, mark the drilling points and secure it through the shield plate.

Maintenance:
•Keep dry after use and oil to prevent surface rust
•Store in a dry place, protected from moisture
•Check rivets regularly to ensure they are secure
