Description

Black medieval surcoat

The medieval surcoat is far more than a simple medieval garment – it is a stylish interpretation of the outerwear worn by high-ranking merchants and travelling nobles in the 14th and 15th centuries. Historical sources such as the Tacuinum Sanitatis (Germany, 1400–1425) and the Book of Hours (France, 1375–1399) served as a source of inspiration for the characteristic silhouette with its multi-row button placket and stand-up collar.

The outer fabric is a brushed wool-blend (80% wool, 20% polyamide), which offers the typical weight and texture of wool – but with a noticeably softer finish for all-day comfort. The lining, made from 100% cotton casement, ensures it is gentle on the skin and comfortable to wear. The modern cut utilises contemporary tailoring techniques whilst remaining true to historical models: the tabard moves smoothly with the body, particularly around the shoulders and chest.

The Lorenzo is designed as a layering piece: it can be worn perfectly over a shirt or undergarment, as well as layered under a heavy coat – ideal for use at medieval markets, LARP events or living history re-enactments. Available in Cardinal Red, Eden Green and Epic Black, and in sizes XS/S, M/L and XL/XXL.
