Description
Red medieval chaperone
Consisting of a thick roll (bourrelet/rondel), a tail (cornette/liripipe) and an elaborately cut cockscomb with elegantly serrated "oak leaves". One of the most common headdresses worn by the wealthy classes of society in the late Middle Ages. This type of Gugel differed considerably from the original Gugeln, which was still used by most citizens. At first it was just a "normal" gugel, which was put on backwards like a kind of hat. However, this quickly developed into a more specific shape with a large "bourelet".
