Medieval gambeson – armour jacket with a distressed look

According to legend, the gambeson was once made to protect a warrior's body in countless battles. Its worn areas, distinctive patches and repair stitches still tell the story of moments when battle left its mark.
The gambeson is based on late medieval protective clothing, as worn under chain mail and plate armor. The gambeson increases the comfort of armor, cushions blows, and provides reliable protection against injury. At the same time, it impresses with its distinctive used look, which is achieved through a special washing process, and gives every garment an authentic, warlike touch.

The sleeveless gambeson consists of three layers: a durable outer layer of cotton canvas, a middle layer of polyester padding, and an inner lining of polyester taffeta. The medium-thick padding ensures dimensional stability, while the smooth inner lining makes it easy to put on over other clothing. A stand-up collar approximately 5 cm (2 inches) high protects the neck, and the overlapping chest area is closed with two leather buckles. Side slits, wide belt loops, and leather straps on the shoulders for armor pieces combine functionality with an authentic look. Vertical quilting, set-in sleeves, and a slightly tailored cut with a pointed hem at the front round off the striking silhouette.
The gambeson is ideal for fantasy, Viking, or medieval role-playing and is a perfect addition to reenactments, LARP, or medieval markets. Combined with a belt, armor pieces, or other accessories, it creates an authentic overall look that emphasizes the historical character.
