Description
The plumbata, also called Mattiobarboli , was in ancient times until the Middle Ages a light, short dart. This weapon was used as early as 500 BC, later by the Roman legions, by Germanic tribes in the Migration Period and was in use until the late Middle Ages, especially in Byzantium.
The length as well as the shape of the tip of plumbatae often varied. This replica has an unsharpened, two-edged barbed iron point, which is attached to the wooden shaft along with the weight.
