Viking knife with leather sheath
This knife is modelled on the early medieval utility knife, as evidenced by numerous grave finds and illustrations from the 6th to the 10th century. Such knives were everyday companions – worn at the belt, used at mealtimes and during work. The simple, functional design is not a flaw, but a deliberate choice: the knife does what it is meant to do, without unnecessary fuss.
The blade is made of carbon steel, ensuring good cutting performance. The handle, crafted from light-coloured ash wood, sits comfortably in the hand – ash is a traditionally used wood characterised by its elasticity and strength. The proportions are well-balanced: a blade length of just under 10 cm makes the knife easy to handle without appearing too small. Added to this is a long handle of approx. 11 cm, which offers sufficient grip even for larger hands. Included is a dark brown leather sheath with a leather strap approx. 17 cm long – this allows the knife to be attached directly to a belt or equipment, as was customary in the early Middle Ages.
