Description
Medieval shield with hand-painted Fenrir motif
This Viking round shield combines authentic craftsmanship with a powerful symbol from Norse mythology. Made of approx. 13 mm (0.51 inches) thick plywood and covered with linen, it features a detailed, hand-painted motif of the Fenris wolf (Fenrir, Fenris or Fenrisúlfr) and a runic inscription in the older Futhark spelling out his name.
In Germanic mythology, Fenrir is considered one of the most powerful and dangerous beings, the child of the god Loki and the giantess Angrboda. His story is closely linked to the twilight of the gods – from the gods' ruse that led to his imprisonment to his liberation, in which he devours Odin. This historical and mythical heritage makes the shield a special piece for lovers of Norse culture.
The steel boss included in the delivery is easily mounted with the enclosed rivets and offers enough space even for strong hands. The back is painted black and fitted with a sturdy fist grip made of solid wood. Although the shield is a little too light for full contact, it is ideal for reenactment, LARP, theater, film, or as a decorative object.
