Description
Create your own version of the Safari from Swedish manufacturer Casström. This compact full tang blade is designed for versatile hunting use. However, it is also great for other uses, such as bushcrafting.
The Safari from Swedish manufacturer Casström is a small, yet powerful knife. It was designed by Alan Wood, a renowned English custom knife maker known for his handcrafted bushcraft and stalking/hunting knives. Alan has been a professional knifemaker since 1985 and is now the UK's most imitated craftsman due to his designs that are at once practical and visually appealing. He is also well known for his collaborations with survival expert Ray Mears.
The compact Vollerl has an approximately 6 cm (2.36 in) long blade made of Swedish 12c27 stainless steel (59 HRC) with a hollow grind and so-called tapered tang (where the continuous tang tapers towards the end of the handle).
The combination of well thought-out design and selected materials results in a simultaneously beautiful and highly durable piece of equipment, which proves ideal as a skinner for smaller game or as a small belt knife for safari hunters.
Steel details: Sandvik 12C27 is a stainless steel very popular in the manufacture of Scandinavian knives. Its composition gives a great combination of excellent properties in terms of edge retention (stability, sharpenability and sharpness), hardness and corrosion resistance. Blades made of this steel can be easily resharpened and at the same time display good edge retention in terms of chipping/nicks and folded edge (so-called edge folding or edge rolling).
