Description
Are you looking for a helmet that suits both your infantry and your heavily armoured combat units? Our replica of a Burgundian pot helmet is the solution! This legendary helmet is one of our best-selling pieces of armour. It was directly inspired by an original Burgundian pot helmet from the second half of the 15th century, which is currently on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
This historically accurate helmet is a favourite amongst re-enactors for late medieval events and is prized by combatants who value an unobstructed view on the battlefield. It does not obstruct either vision or breathing, making it one of the most popular helmets on re-enactment battlefields and at LARP events. We have therefore endeavoured to recreate the shape of the pot helmet, which was worn in the late 15th century by infantry and light cavalry alike, and occasionally even by knights.
This helmet is handcrafted from 14-gauge carbon steel with a polished finish. It stands approximately 23.5 cm high; the internal depth from front to back at eye level measures approximately 24 cm; and the internal width at ear level is approximately 21 cm. This helmet has an internal circumference of 68 cm (before the leather inlay is fitted) and fits most head circumferences from around 58 cm to 61–62 cm, depending on the wearer’s head shape. If you wish to wear an additional padded hood, measure your head circumference whilst wearing it. (The adjustable leather inlay, which is already fitted inside the helmet, is sufficient for most adult men’s heads.) A sturdy chin strap with a brass buckle fastening keeps the helmet securely in place during combat. The iron helmet weighs approximately 2.96 kg.
Note: During packaging, this product is carefully coated with a layer of oil, which serves as a temporary (protective) layer against corrosion (rust) and can be easily wiped off using any oil remover or even a dry cloth.
