Leather shoes with simple toggle closure of the early Middle Ages
In the early Middle Ages, the toggle closure was used for shoes and boots and became a widely used closure technique during that time. This simple closure ensured that the shoe could be worn comfortably as well as securely and for a long time. The simple toggle closure was also popular with the Vikings as it was quick and easy to use. Finds of similar Viking shoes can still be seen in museums today.
Our offered early medieval shoes with toggle closure are made of cowhide leather. They have a leather insole and a sturdy outsole, also made of leather, which was nailed to the shoe. On the side is a toggle closure, which allows the shoe to adjust well to your own foot.

However, this information serves only as a recommendation, as various factors such as insoles, thick socks or a wide foot can play a role in this.
