Description
‘Forseti’ Flap Coat – Authentic Viking wool coat in green and burgundy
The ‘Forseti’ tabbed tunic is far more than just a piece of medieval costume – it is a meticulously crafted garment with genuine historical roots. The cut of the tabbed tunic dates back to the Eurasian horsemen of the Migration Period, was adopted by the Vikings and the Rus, and is attested in early medieval Scandinavia by archaeological finds such as the helmets from Sutton Hoo and Välsgarde, as well as textile fragments from Haithabu. With its characteristic triangular flaps at the front, which typically overlap, and the burgundy-coloured trim on the sleeve hems and neckline, the Forseti adds a striking, historically accurate touch to any Viking outfit. The total length of approx. 95 cm (in size L, measured from the highest point of the shoulder) is closely based on early medieval depictions and allows the cloak to end just above the knee – exactly as historical sources suggest.
High-quality material for maximum comfort: the outer fabric of the Forseti doublet consists of 100% wool, which provides natural warmth and temperature regulation whilst remaining breathable. This makes the cloak the ideal companion for chilly evenings at medieval fairs, in Viking camps or at outdoor re-enactment events. The full lining, made from 100 per cent polyester, ensures that the coat glides smoothly when you put it on or take it off – preventing the tunic or undergarments underneath from slipping out of place. The combination of natural outer fabric and functional lining makes the Forseti a garment that impresses both for historical re-enactment and everyday wear.
Wearing instructions and styling options: Traditionally, the double-breasted coat is fastened with a belt, which securely holds the overlapping front together whilst emphasising the silhouette. For those who prefer an even more authentic look, the coat can alternatively be fastened with a brooch – both options are in keeping with historical examples. The Forseti blends seamlessly into a complete Viking outfit and harmonises perfectly with tunics, leggings, leather belts and Viking-era jewellery. Please note the care instructions: the coat is suitable for hand washing only, to preserve the quality of the woollen fabric in the long term.
The Forseti wrap-around coat is the ideal choice for:
- Medieval fairs and Viking camps – an authentic look in all weathers
- Re-enactment and living history – historically accurate construction for the highest standards of presentation
- LARP and costume parties with an early medieval or Nordic theme
- Anyone who values natural materials, well-thought-out details and an authentic look
If you fall between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size. Comfort allowances are already included in the cut. Measure your bust horizontally at the fullest point for the best fit.
