Description
Hoplite Sword / Greek Xiphos
The xiphos was a sword of the ancient Greeks and was the main weapon of the Greek armies. It was carried in battle together with a spear and was used when the spear was no longer usable due to being thrown or lost.
This reconstruction of a hoplite sword has a blade made of EN45 spring steel, the blades of which are not sharpened.
The authentically shaped hilt consists of a wooden pommel with a steel cap, a steel hand guard and a handle section with a thick steel core and riveted wooden scales.
The accompanying leather scabbard is made of wood and covered with red leather. The mouth and guard are also made of wood. Brass rings are attached to the scabbard by means of leather straps to enable the wearer to carry his Xiphos on a belt running across the shoulder like a real Greek warrior.
