Description
Pompeii Gladius with scabbard
This reconstruction is a Roman legionary gladius after the location of Pompeii. Fragments of the original are now in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples
The city of Pompeii was completely submerged in Jhare 79 AD after the devastating eruption of the volcano Vesuvius. What was then one of the greatest tragedies, is today an ideal site for archaeologists. The ash and pumice piled up meters high at that time covered and preserved countless Roman weapons and objects of daily use. After meanwhile nearly two thousand years, these are brought to light and help us to get a good insight into the life at that time.
