Sir William Marshal’s 12th-century sword, SK-B – reenactment sword

This sword is based on the original belonging to Sir William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke, who served the British Crown under Henry II, Richard the Lionheart and John Lackland. The historical original is now housed in a British museum.

The reconstruction follows the original in form and detail. The crossguard and pommel are made of heat-treated, malleable cast iron – simply crafted, without superfluous ornamentation. The full-length spring steel blade is hand-riveted to the pommel; the hilt is wrapped in leather cord. A pronounced fuller runs the full width of the blade – this reduces the weight and gives the blade its elasticity. It has been oil-hardened to approx. 48 HRC. The cutting edge is not sharpened.

Included is a wooden scabbard with a leather cover and brass rings for attachment to a sword belt. The piece is entirely handcrafted.
