Turin sword of Mauritius of the 13th century

According to legend, St. Mauritius was the leader of the Thebaic Legion. He has been venerated as a saint in the Catholic and Orthodox Churches since the 4th century.

The original of our reconstruction was forged about 1000 years after his death. Nevertheless, the sword is kept and venerated as a relic of St. Mauritius together with some of his bones in Turin.

This sword is made exclusively by hand. The blade is made of high quality spring steel, which is hardened to about 48 HRC. It is continuous up to the pommel and riveted at the pommel. The pronounced groove of the blade gives the sword great elasticity and at the same time lightness. Both the edge and the tip of the blade are rounded and thus blunt.
The guard and the pommel are made of iron. The handy handle is wrapped with a sturdy piece of leather.

The accompanying scabbard is made of wood and then covered with leather. The brass rings are used to attach it to the sword belt.
