Description
Leather ironing bag from the Viking Age
Shoulder bags with wooden handles have been around since the Viking Age. There are four different finds from Haithabu, all of which had different shapes and sizes. Such wooden bag handles were also found in Birka (Sweden) and Viborg (Denmark). However, the function of the shoulder bag could only be deduced from later finds from Lapland. The bag handles from Haithabu were made of ash and maple wood.
Our bag handle bags are made of high-quality pine wood. The sturdy leather bag is sewn onto the wide eyelets of the bag handle. The two eyelets on either side allow the hemp rope, which serves as a shoulder strap, to be threaded through.
