Description
Alvilda Women’s Dress – Early Medieval-style Undergarment
The Alvilda dress is modelled on the simple garments that women wore as undergarments in the early Middle Ages. The so-called underdress – also known as a chainse or cotte – was a key garment worn directly against the skin and formed the basis of every medieval outfit. With its round neckline, long straight sleeves and ankle-length cut, the Alvilda closely follows this historical design.
Made from 100% cotton, the dress feels comfortable against the skin – even during long market days or multi-day LARP events. The loose-fitting, straight cut does not restrict freedom of movement, making it a practical everyday piece in the camp. Vertical side seams add visual structure to the dress without detracting from its minimalist character. The closed back provides additional support. The dress can be easily combined with a belt, an overskirt or a corset – creating a different look depending on the styling.
Whether worn on its own at a summer festival or as a base garment under a surcoat: the Alvilda is a versatile staple for early medieval attire. Care is straightforward – the dress can be machine-washed at 30°C.
