Dark brown Viking bag handles made of oak

These bag handles made of solid oak are based on archaeological finds from important Viking Age sites: Haithabu in present-day Schleswig-Holstein, Birka in Sweden and Viborg in Denmark. Wooden handles were found there as functional components of hanging bags – an everyday item of Viking life that complemented both clothing and equipment. This pair brings this authentic style to re-enactments and medieval markets.

The hangers are made of oiled oak and have been dipped in a sal ammoniac solution. This ancient process darkens the wood naturally – without paint or stain – and gives the hangers a deep, rich tone that fits well with the earthy colour palette of Viking-era clothing and equipment. The oil protects the surface and emphasises the natural wood grain. Anyone working on designing a harmonious Viking garment will find an accessory here that is both visually appealing and well crafted. The slits and holes allow for classic fastening with a leather strap and cord.
