Description
Blue Viking dress with cross-stitch seams – “Jorunn”
The Jorunn dress incorporates design features known from Nordic archaeological finds and early medieval depictions: a long, flowing garment with a V-neck, long sleeves and intricate cross-stitch seams at the neckline, sleeves and hem. During the Viking Age, hand embroidery was a visible sign of craftsmanship and social standing – this tradition is reflected in the details of the Jorunn.
The dress is made from 100% cotton. The fabric feels comfortable against the skin, is breathable and is also suitable for long days at medieval markets or LARP events. The V-neck extends to the shoulders, giving the dress a feminine yet powerful silhouette. Combined with a wide leather or fabric belt, the dress gains additional structure; a cape or shawl completes a harmonious overall look. The Jorunn can thus be worn both as a standalone garment and as a base for a layered Viking outfit.
In the early Middle Ages, blue was a prized colour obtained from plant-based dyes such as woad. A blue dress signalled attention to detail in one’s attire – a detail that lends the Jorunn a historically inspired character even in a modern context.
