Knight of the Zarg

The Waldecks

In the Bavarian Oberland, in what is now the district of Miesbach (Muespach), lies the domain of the Lords of Waldeck. The Waldeck castles were Altenwaldeck near Niklasreuth, Holnsteyn (Höhlenstein) above Feilnbach, Waldenburg (Wallenburg) near Miesbach, Muespach Castle, Hohenwaldeck above Schliersee, and Pastburg above Parsberg. Georg von Waldeck was the founder of the churches at Frauenried (Nativity of Mary), Agatharied and Georgenried. Our knights, noble ladies, monks and craftsmen come predominantly from the territory of the Waldeck domain; together, they bring the late 14th-century Middle Ages in the Bavarian Oberland back to life and have set themselves the goal of introducing guests of all ages to this era through living history at medieval markets, jousting tournaments and similar events. We offer a diverse range of living history, from a knights’ camp with camp (gourmet) cuisine, through armoured full-contact jousting (with a field surgeon), to falconry and demonstrations of traditional crafts, including the monastery brewery run by the good monks, the bakery, the smokehouse and the field smithy, as well as domestic crafts such as tablet weaving, embroidery and needle binding.
