Sun tin button

During the Copper Age (ca. 3500-3000 BC), tin was also discovered. In ancient times, this material was particularly sought after and was used for the decorative inlays of chariots, tinned copper coins, pewter mirrors and ampoules. In the Middle Ages, however, people specifically limited the use of tin only for the manufacture of certain pieces.

In the High Middle Ages, people wore pewter badges, also called pilgrim badges, on their chests. The design of the badges varied from region to region. Tableware was replaced with pewter to make it more stable. In larger cities, pewter began to be processed by hand in pewter foundries. Although iron replaced bronze, pewter regained importance in the 19th century through the industrial production of tinplate.

Our offered pewter button has a mushroom shape with a sun look. Sometimes in the past, the fabric for buttons with long necks was slit to put the neck of the button through and then sew it on from the inside. With these buttons, it is still possible to attach them in this way, but it can also be used for various craft projects.
