Viking age bead silver plated, No. B5
Â
In the Viking age, it was common to make necklaces with filigree granulation ornaments in the form of delicate silver wires, strings of beads and spheres. Goldsmiths had a remarkable gift for creating small masterpieces with a minimum of material. The basis for the granulation pattern was made from thin sheets of silver, which were usually cast. Beautiful decorative elements were then soldered on as well, leaving no visible marks so that it appeared as if the filigree granulations were floating.
This replica of an authentic Viking Age bead is a replica of a historical find, made using intricate granulation techniques from the 9th-10th centuries. During the Viking Age, sophisticated patterns of tiny beads and thin wires were soldered onto beads, which were characterized by a high level of detail.
Our offered Viking age bead is made from one piece, yet still shows off the intricate pattern.
