Viking bead silver plated, No. P1
Â
In the Viking Age, it was common to decorate chain beads with a filigree granulation decoration of silver wires and small spheres. Goldsmiths were particularly skilled at creating elegant works of art from minimal materials. The structure of the granulation decor was made of thin sheets of silver to which decorative elements were applied by soldering. It was so carefully applied that it was almost invisible to the eye, and the delicate decorations seemed to float on the surface.
This Viking silver plated bead is a replica of a historical find from the 9th-10th century, where the complicated granulation technique was used. In comparison, our replica is completely cast in one piece, while still expressing the filigree design. With its small size, the Viking bead bronze is a good piece of jewelry to be placed between glass or bronze beads.
