Description
Shamrock button made of pewter
In ancient times, the button was known as a decorative element without a buttonhole or loop. In the 13th century, buttons with buttonholes were invented in Germany, instead of loops. This new method spread quickly in Europe by the 14th century and led to a fashion with tighter fitting clothes.
This pewter button with clover shape has a smooth surface. An eyelet was worked into it so it could be attached to garments. However, it is just as good for crafting.
