Reconstruction of a Viking Age Tunic, from Viborg (Denmark)

This handsome reconstruction of a tunic from the Viking Age was made after an original from Viborg (Denmark). The original is dated to the 11th century. It is therefore particularly suitable for depicting the Viking Age.

The elaborate cut and the cotton fabric make it surprisingly comfortable to wear. The torso part was worked from two layers of fabric. The neckline has drawstrings, making it practical to wear open or closed.
In the underarm area there is a so-called gusset. This allows the arms to be moved and lifted freely without anything getting caught.
The arms of the Viking tunic are made of three parts. From the shoulder to the hands, the cut becomes narrower and narrower.
The tunic is slit at the thighs for optimal freedom of movement.
