The Midgard Serpent, which according to the beliefs of the Vikings and Germanic tribes surrounded the earth, was an omen of destruction. According to legend, this huge creature was fathered by the Norse god Loki before finally being destroyed by his hammer Mjölnir in the third and final battle with Thor. Just moments after Midgard was obliterated, Thor succumbed to the serpent's venom.
These earrings are influenced by the art of the Viking Age, known as the Urnes style, and feature a Midgard serpent intertwined with elaborate patterns.
