Viking knife in the Oseberg style with leather sheath

The Oseberg ship, sunk around 834 AD as a ceremonial burial for a woman of high rank, is one of the most significant archaeological finds of the Viking Age. The carvings found on it – known as the Oseberg style – are among the most impressive examples of Viking-era animal ornamentation. This knife takes up this motif: the bone handle features a mirrored Oseberg image, thus combining historical design with high-quality craftsmanship.

The handle is crafted from ash wood – a timber that has long been regarded in the Germanic and Nordic worlds as particularly durable and valuable. Brass end caps complete the handle and lend it an elegant, metallic accent. A brass ring is also fitted at the end of the handle. The carbon steel blade offers excellent cutting performance and can be resharpened – an advantage over stainless steels for anyone wishing to use their knife in everyday camp life. The blade thickness of 2.5 mm makes the knife robust enough for simple carving tasks, preparing food over a campfire, or as a side knife when dining at a medieval market.

The included leather sheath is not merely an accessory, but a well-designed carrying system: brass fittings at the opening and along one side protect the sheath in high-wear areas. A ring with an attached leather loop allows for easy attachment to a belt. This ensures the knife sits securely against the body – whether at the market, in a LARP camp or at a re-enactment event.
