Bronze Viking ear spoon

This detailed replica of a Viking ear spoon is based on a find from Birka in Lake Mälaren in Sweden. Ear spoons, which were regarded as the “Q-tips” of the Vikings, were an important part of women's costumes and have been found in many Viking settlement areas in various forms made of bronze or silver. These ear spoons were often attached to long chains or leather straps on the shell brooches of women's clothing and hung down to belt height. In addition to an ear spoon, tweezers and an awl were often attached in this way.

Ear spoons and fine bronze tweezers have been used for personal hygiene since the Bronze Age. The Egyptians and Romans even used them as medical instruments and the Germanic tribes and Vikings also used them for hygiene and beauty care.
