Viking sword Haithabu with scabbard, 9th century, Damascus blade

This intricately crafted Viking sword is a faithful replica of the remarkably well-preserved Haithabu grave find from the 9th century. Historians believe that this blade once belonged to a Danish nobleman or wealthy Viking warrior. You can see the original piece at the Haithabu Viking Museum. In 2018, UNESCO declared the site of this important trading center of Jutland a World Heritage Site.

This one-handed sword is a classic example of a Viking sword wielded by Norse warriors. It features traditional attributes of early medieval swords, including a short parry bar and a straight, double-edged blade with a wide gouge and a prominent raised pommel.

The blade of this replica sword has a Damascus steel blade connected to the pommel by a continuous tang, but has not been sharpened at the edges. Damascus steel is an artful fusion of soft and hard iron, resulting in a high degree of hardness. The handle with wooden core is bound with red leather, while both ends are decorated with decorative brass rings. In addition, this model has a 14 cm (5.5 in) long and 2 cm (0.8 in) thick parry bar and a five-lobed brass pommel, each engraved with motifs and patterns intended to be as close as possible to those of the original.

This early medieval sword comes with a red wood / leather scabbard, which is equipped with brass mouth plate, Ortband and strap pull through (max belt width 6 cm (2.4 in)).

It is important to remember that this sword should not be used for show fighting. It serves its purpose as a collectible, decorative object or even as a prop to complete the matching costume.
