There were also probably tinned copper coins, as well as tin mirrors and ampoules. In the Middle Ages, pewter was only used specifically for making certain pieces.
In the High Middle Ages, pewter badges, also known as pilgrim badges, were worn on the chest. Depending on the region, there were different badges. Since wooden and clay dinnerware were not as sturdy, they were replaced by pewter. In larger cities, pewter began to be processed by hand in pewter foundries. Although iron replaced bronze, pewter regained importance in the 19th century due to the industrial production of tinplate.
